Details TL 2755 GREAT GRANSDEN CHURCH STREET (South Side) 15/34 Rippington Manor 24.10.51 GV II* Originally the manor farmhouse, C16 timber framed hall and double crosswing, cased in mid C17 local brick. Plain tile roofs. To rear of hall and outer walls of crosswings are three iron-stone side stacks with off-sets, surmounted by later brick shafts. North-east facade; hall range two storeys, crosswings two storeys with garrets. High brick plinth and band between floors common to all ranges. Slightly projecting bay to left hand of hall range has one first floor, C19 casement window with glazing bars and an early C18 moulded brick string and flat gauged brick arch above ground floor three-light casement window with leaded-lights and transome. Similar ground floor window to right hand and two without transomes at both floor levels to right hand. C17 oak studded door to right of centre flanked by reduced C18 brick side stack. Gables to crosswing both similar with windows at each floor level. Left-hand gable has one fixed three-light garret window and two, three-light casement windows in original openings with wooden lintels and chamfered jambs. The jambs of the later casement windows in right-hand gable slightly altered. Interior. The hall has chamfered ceiling beams and original stone chimney piece with four-centred arch and stop-moulded jambs; similar hearth in north-west wing and C17 panelling. Two C17 battened doors, C17 balustrade to part of staircase. Early C18 panelling to south-east wing. Exposed timber frame at first floor. RCHM, p 121, mon. (4). History of Great Gransden. 1892.
