Reason for designation: Listed as a well designed war memorial and for historic interest to Porth. Exterior: The limestone memorial comprises a 3 sided recess unusually built out over river and 4 steps up from pavement, with monument in centre. Walls decorated with swags in relief and on rear wall inscriptions in Welsh left and English right to the men of Porth and District who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-1918; on front piers facing road are wreaths in relief. Cenotaph has long 2 sided inscription panel listing names of dead; above and between 2 moulded cornices is a relief cross within a wreath; inscription to side right Our glorious dead and to left Mewn Anghof ni Chant Fod . Added to right is black marble plaque commemorating dead of Second World War. Gates are later. Location: Situated N of Cymmer Bridge on the E bank of River Rhondda near centre of town.
