Details TRING ODDY HILL SP 91 SW (West side) 4/94 Nell Gwynn's Monument 21.9.51 in Park Wood (Formerly listed as Nell Gwynn's Monument) GV II Obelisk. Early C18, for William Gore probably by James Gibbs as part of landscaped setting of Tring Park. Limestone ashlar on red brick core. Tall stone obelisk about 50ft high at roundepoint in wood on hillside overlooking Tring Park. High square pedestal with moulded cap and base. Tall tapering obelisk on boldly moulded base (2 tori with scotia between). Concave point with ball finial pierced by spike. No inscription. View NE along alley to Temple or Summer House (q.v.). James Gibbs designed some ornamental buildings for William Gore (d.1739) Soane MS (Colvin(1978)343).
