Details First World War memorial, erected in 1921. MATERIALS: carved from granite. DESCRIPTION: the war memorial is prominently situated on the summit of St Michael’s Hill and takes the form of a Celtic-style wheel cross and a tall shaft on a rectangular plinth, which in turn rests on a square three-stepped base. The front (east) face of the plinth is inscribed in black painted lettering: IN/ EVERLASTING/ MEMORY/ OF THE MEN OF/ MINEHEAD/ WHO LAID DOWN/ THEIR LIVES IN THE/ GREAT WAR/ 1914-1918. The names of the fallen are recorded on the north, west and east faces. A stone bench was added to the south side of the base after the Second World War; its back is inscribed with the names of the Fallen. This List entry has been amended to add the source for War Memorials Online. This source was not used in the compilation of this List entry but is added here as a guide for further reading, 15 December 2016.
