Details BLACKAWTON MILLCOMBE SX84NW Millcombe Bridge 5/35 II Road bridge over stream (The Gara). Probably C17, widened in C18 and again in C19. Local slate rubble with dressed slate arch-ring. Small single span bridge. The upstream west side had dressed slate segmental arch on straight jambs with chamfered imposts. The east downstream side had a similar arch but built of stone rubble and the jambs have no imposts. There is a small flood arch to the north with a corbelled arch. Parapets with concrete coping. Judging from the masonry joints under the arch it seems that the original brick at the centre was a narrow pack-horse bridge which was widened on the west upstream side probably in the C19 and on the downstream side sometime in the C19. The floodarch was built when the C18 on the west side. Listing NGR: SX8027349900 Legacy The contents of this record have been generated from a legacy data system.
