One ground floor room has a very fine early C16 ceiling beam of deeply hollow and roll moulded profile. One end of the beam is continued into the wall as a post, the moulding also continuous. The outer end terminates in a corbel finely carved with naturalistic foliage.and a tripping cockerel. This room is also lined with early C17 square sunk panelling, with a fine contemporary fireplace. This fireplace has an overmantel in three bays divided by paired Doric columns with entablature of strapwork, frieze and dentil cornice on enriched brackets. Below the modern brick hearth is flanked by strapwork pilasters. Possibly these features came from the former manor house on the site which was owned and enlarged by John Layer (d.1641) the antiquarian.
