Details LONG WHATTON MILL LANE SK 42 SE 5/196 Long Whatton Mill and bridge over mill stream 14.8.75 GV II Watermill and adjoining bridge. Mill is said to be dated 1753 in vitreous header brick in south east gable (not visible 1986 because of creepers). Red brick, remains of Swithland slate roof with coped gables. 3 storeys and loft. Cogged and dentil brick eaves; band course across gable at eaves level. South east gable end window openings with segmental heads to each floor, the ground floor windows boarded up, the second floor window with one shutter. Left side has outshot over mill stream. Right side has board door to first floor, and ground floor entry with brick arch enclosed by later 2-storey lean-to. Surviving machinery includes spindle of mill wheel, part of main wooden shaft, dislodged millstones, and fragments of hopper. All in derelict condition. To front of mill is contemporary BRIDGE with rubble stone retaining walls, segmental brick arch, and remains of brick parapet. Mill was worked until 1930s.
