Details War Memorial, built by Messrs Newman and Harper on a raised mound surrounded by a chain link and granite post fence, unveiled by Lord Rothschild and dedicated in August 1921. MATERIALS. Granite. EXTERIOR. The memorial takes the form of a Celtic cross, approximately 5.8m high. The memorial is approached from the ground level by a flight of three steps and comprises a stone plinth with a three-tiered base, surmounted by a cross. The cross has a tapered base on which the following inscription and the names of the 10 World War I dead, and one from World War II, are carved. IN MEMORY OF/THE GALLANT MEN/OF THIS VILLAGE WHO FOUGHT AND FELL IN/ THE GREAT WAR/1914-1918/ (NAMES)/ THEY DID THEIR DUTY FOR KING AND COUNTRY/ 1939-1945/(NAME). The cross has a tapering shaft, with a band of carved lattice decoration at the bottom. The arms of the cross have carved, interlacing circular and cruciform motifs, encircled by a guilloche band.
