Details This record was the subject of a minor enhancement on 28 May 2015. The record has been generated from an "old county number" (OCN) scheduling record. These are monuments that were not reviewed under the Monuments Protection Programme and are some of our oldest designation records. This monument includes a motte castle situated on an east facing slope of a ridge overlooking the valleys of Church House Dingle, Sunny Bank Dingle and Hanging Grove which contain tributaries to the Cadmore Brook. The motte survives as a circular mound measuring up to 27m in diameter and standing from 2m up to 4m high surrounded by a ditch up to 9m wide and 1.1m deep. A late 19th century excavation on the eastern side found charcoal, ashes and rough stones but the excavators mistakenly believed this was a large barrow. Legacy The contents of this record have been generated from a legacy data system. Legacy System number: HE 166 Legacy System: RSM - OCN
