Category B Date Added 08/12/1971 Local Authority Orkney Islands Planning Authority Orkney Islands Parish Evie And Rendall NGR HY 43488 21922 Coordinates 343488, 1021922 — 17th century mansion formerly consisting of 3 ranges and a screen wall enclosing a court. N. Range has been demolished E. RANGE: Reconstructed c.1900. 1 1/2 storeys (formerly full 2 storeys). Harled with freestone dressings. Modern slated roof and corbie- stepped dormers. Entrance in centre of W. side has lintel with monogram W.C./M.H. Interior altered but retaining two original fire-places. W. RANGE: Dated 1676 on S.E. skew-putt. Now gutted and roofless but rising to 2 storeys. SCREEN WALL on S. has allure, gun-loops, and central arch with pediment and armorial panel over. Two-way stair between house and shore. — Craigies bought Gairsay from Bellendens 1653. Langskaill was built for Sir William Craigie and his wife Margaret Honyman, but probably incorporates earlier work.
