Category C Date Added 06/04/1992 Local Authority Glasgow Planning Authority Glasgow Burgh Glasgow NGR NS 58412 69409 Coordinates 258412, 669409 — T Somers, engineer, built 1930. Carrying A879 over Forth and Clyde Canal Single-leaf bascule bridge with steel-plate girder lifting span. Footpaths cantilevered from main girders with light steel railways. Abutments massive concrete with concrete parapets on S side, pylons with flat pyramidal tops making ends of swing span. On N canal towpath carried under bridge, with concrete wing walls parallel to canal. — Replaced earlier wooden 2-leaf bascule bridge. Closed to canal traffic since 31 December 1962; control cabin, road gates and surface gear removed. There were 3 others of similar design, at Temple, near Torrance and at Blairdardie, the last of which has been demolished.
