Details SU 06 SW 6/103 BISHOPS CANNINGS Laywood Bridge andblockhouse GV II Accommodation bridge over Kennet and Avon Canal. c1806-7. Red and blue brick with stone copings. Bridge splayed on plan. Thirteen- inch elliptical arch of bullnosed bricks. Two courses string at base of parapet and flush half-round copings ending in slight piers. Some late C19 repairs in blue brick under arch. Stone capping to canal wall revetment against towpath, and winding pool east of bridge. Lozenge GWR cast iron loading restriction sign at north end, the load inserts missing. At north end, mid C20 hexagonal blockhouse of hollow clayware blocks with chamfered concrete roof. Concrete gunports central to each face and entrance on north.
