Details TM 36 NE KELSALE-CUM-CARLTON MAIN ROAD 5/64 Kelsale Manor 25.10.51 (previously listed as Manor Farmhouse) II* Farmhouse. Early C16 (or possibly earlier) core, early C18 facades. A single central range with 2 long flanking wings set forward. Timber framed and plastered, plaster cove eaves cornice, plaintiled roof with pantiles to rear of central range. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 5-bay centre range, cross windows with square leaded panes, the central first floor window semi-circular headed; doorway with Gibbs surround with triangular pediment over; C20 paired 3-panel doors, the upper panel of each door glazed, raised and fielded lower panels; central internal stack. One 3-light ovolo-moulded mullion window to rear. The inside face of the right hand wing has a similar doorway but without the pediment; the gable end of this wing has a good C18 3-light ground floor splayed bay with sash windows, engaged columns to the angles, frieze and modillion cornice with a pediment over the centre window. The outer (south) facade of this wing has a range of sash windows in flush frames with heavy glazing bars. This wing was originally jettied: when cased in C18 a hollow ground floor cavity was left allowing a carved corner post to be seen through a panel in a window reveal. Interior with good early-mid C18 staircase with 2 designs of twisted baluster per tread, moulded handrail with scrolled ends, fluted newel posts; some small remains of carved woodwork in right hand wing.
