Details 1939-1/0/10001 20-JAN-05 ILMINSTER War Memorial in the churchyard of St Mary the Virgin Church GV II First World War memorial. Erected 1917. Designed by F. Bligh Bond; sculptor Herbert Reed of Exeter. A white Portland stone canopied Calvary with an octagonal cross standing on a grey Doulting stone stepped octagonal plinth, inscribed:- "To the Memory of the Brave Men of Ilminster who gave their lives for their Country in the Great War 1914- ". A First World War memorial by a distinguished church restoration architect and church sculptor. This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 14 December 2016.
