Heritage listing
Details The memorial stands to the south of the Church of St Laurence (Grade I-listed). It takes the form of a tall stone Calvary. The hooded cross head rises from a heavily moulded collar on the tapering shaft. The shaft stands on a pedestal with a two-stage base, which stands on an octagonal step. The principal dedicatory inscription on the front face of the pedestal reads IN THANKSGIVING TO GOD/ FOR THE DEAR AND HONOURED/ MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS/ PARISH WHO WILLINGLY/ OFFERED THEMSELVES AND/ LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR US/ FOR OUR COUNTRY AND/ FOR THE LIBERTY OF THE WORLD. The commemorated First World War names are recorded on the other sides of the pedestal and the Second World War names are listed on the upper surface of the top stage of the base. This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 7 February 2017.
