Details SU 19 NE KEMPSFORD KEMPSFORD VILLAGE (south side) 8/96 Group of 7 monuments to Iles and Arkell families, immediately south of south nave wall in church- yard of St. Mary the Virgin II Group of 7 chest tombs. Late C18 to mid C19. All limestone with moulded plinth and capping on base. Recessed or fielded rectangular panels to ends and sides, all with flanking fluted strips to sides. Some side panels have elaborately carved cartouches for inscriptions, most of which are legible. Two-step tent tops with curved edges and flattened tops. The only exception to the group description is tomb furthest to south-west, Daniel Iles, died 1824, which has no visible base, a fluted frieze and 3-step tent top with uppermost step with straight edges. In 3 rows, from east to west and reading from south to north: Row 1: Hannah Arkell died 1818, Daniel Iles died 1824. Row 2: Dorothy Arkell died 1780, John Arkell died 1797, Thomas Arkell died 1839.
