Category B Date Added 25/03/1992 Local Authority Fife Planning Authority Fife Burgh Dunfermline NGR NT 08880 87600 Coordinates 308880, 687600 — D H Shaw, Burgh Engineer and F A MacDonald and Partners, Consulting Engineers, Glasgow, 1930-32. Road bridge with single segmental main span (184ft 10") and 3 flanking minor arches (23ft each) to either side. Reinforced concrete. Open spandrels with 4 vertical posts to each side to main span; transverse braces between both outer faces of arch. Footpaths corbelled out slightly to either side of roadway; balustraded parapets with 2 pairs of Art Deco lamp standards to either side of main span; each with broad base with superimposed geometric panels; narrower square-plan standard above surmounted by circular metal posts with finialled spherical lanterns. Swept wings terminating in small square-plan Art Deco style piers. — Built to relieve traffic congestion in the High Street. An early example of a major open-spandrel reinforced concrete bridge in Scotland.
