Background

History

The district was created on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 covering four former districts, which were all abolished at the same time: The new district was named East Staffordshire, reflecting its position within the wider county. The district received borough status in 1992, allowing the chair of the council to take the title of mayor. Since 2011, East Staffordshire Borough Council has been a member of the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership. In 2020, East Staffordshire also joined the Stoke and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership.
