Background

History

The district was created on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, covering nine former districts which were all abolished at the same time: The new district was named East Lindsey, reflecting its position within Lindsey, one of the three historic Parts of Lincolnshire, which had been an administrative county between 1889 and 1974. In 2020 the council agreed to share its management and other staff with neighbouring Boston Borough Council. South Holland District Council joined the partnership in 2021, which is now described as the "South and East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership".
