Heritage listing
Details The c3m tall granite cross stands in the churchyard of the Church of St George (Grade I), immediately to the south of the lych gate and facing onto the A38. It comprises a Latin cross, octagonal in section, with slightly splayed cross arms. The cross rises from a shouldered pedestal, square on plan. The pedestal stands on a two-stepped octagonal base. The principal dedicatory inscription is incised into the front face of the pedestal. Highly weathered at the time of writing (2017), this is reported as reading TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND HONOUR OF THOSE WHO WENT/ AND IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL/ IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 18. The three commemorated names are recorded on the base. This List entry has been amended to add the source for War Memorials Register. This source was not used in the compilation of this List entry but is added here as a guide for further reading, 22 November 2017.
