Category B Date Added 20/07/1971 Local Authority Argyll And Bute Planning Authority Argyll And Bute Burgh Oban NGR NM 85996 30088 Coordinates 185996, 730088 — Alexander Shairp, 1880, with vestry and WC 1894. 3 x 6-bay classical hall church over raised basement, of rectangular plan. W (Tweeddale street) principal elevation of polished ashlar over bull-faced rusticated basement, side and rear elevations of squared grey rubble with ashlar dressings, stugged and droved at arrises. PRINCIPAL ELEVATION: 3-bay rusticated raised basement with louvered windows. Perron forestair with turned stone balusters, crypt door at centre with slit windows to either side. Pilasters with capitals and bases framing bays. Architraved, round-arched windows in recesses with panelled aprons and vermiculated keystones to outer bays. Entrance door in recess to centre, architraved with vermiculated keystone and radial fanlight above. Corniced pediment over frieze with script in tympanum; "1880 Congregational Church". SIDE ELEVATIONS: round-arched windows to each bay. Diamond-pane glazing to side windows, stained glass window in E wall with sunburst design; border glazing pattern to west windows. 2-leaf timber doors to crypt and hall, louvered crypt windows. Shouldered stacks to centre of N and W walls. Cast-iron gutters and downpipes, and lamp standards to forestair balustrade. INTERIOR: pitch pine pews, pulpit to centre of E wall with office door and steps to right, matching dummy door and steps to left.
