Details CLAXTON THE STREET, North TG 30 SW side. Claxton Manor 2/36 25.9.51 GV II Country house. C17 in origin with much C19 addition and remodelling. Flint and red brick whitewashed on north side. Roofs plain tiled and pantiled, steeply pitched. Two storeys and two storeys with attics, partly double pile. C19 south facade of five bays, symmetrical: two storeys. Cross case- ments in chamfered and rusticated stone surrounds with square label-moulds. Central two-storey porch with stepped stone string course around doorway; rectangular fanlight of, three lights over door with four-centred head. Upper 3-light casement with pediment. Moulded and sawtooth brick eaves. Gables parapeted with stone kneelers, single step and square apex. Earlier range to rear: C19 casements with chamfered mullions and transoms in segmentalheaded openings. Large external chimney stack, capped off, at north-east corner. Two chimney stacks on north wall. Two gabled dormers with shaped barge boards and 2-light casements. Shaped east gable with ground floor and first floor 4-light casements; 3-light C20 attic casement. The ground floor window is set within a large eliptical arched opening with spandrels; the first floor window is set in a chamfered reveal with a rebuilt pediment with brick dentils.
