Details CHELTENHAM SO9422SE PROMENADE 630-1/13/761 (North West side) 14/12/83 Boer War Memorial approximately 10 metres east of No.47 (Formerly Listed as: PROMENADE (North West side) Boer War Memorial about 80 yds NE of main entrance to Municipal Offices) GV II War memorial. Erected 1907. Bronze statue of soldier in pith helmet with downcast gaze and reversed rifle. High stone plinth with names and explanatory material in panels and on steps. Statue carved by RL Boulton and Sons of Cheltenham and cast by AB Burton of Thames Ditton. The Promenade was laid out in 1818 as a tree-lined avenue connecting the Colonnade in the High Street to the Sherbourne Spa (on the site of the Queen's Hotel (qv)).
