Reason for designation: Listed for the special interest of this simple Dissenting Chapel, apparently converted from a house. History: The chapel was apparently converted from a house in the 18th century, and a chimney still projects at the liturgical E end (true NE). The principal architectural features and the fittings are mid-19th century. Exterior: Stone rubble painted, stone slate roof, stone chimneybreast on E gable-end. Pair S doors, flush-panelled, segmental stone arch. Windows pointed, 3 x 3 lights. C20 lean-to annexe on N, brick, corrugated asbestos roof. C19 stone panel on S ‘Messrs William and David Prosser brought the Ministry of the Gospel to their house in the year 1737. And secured this place for that sacred use for the time being’ (etc). Interior: Pine reading desk, panelled gallery along N & E walls on ringed iron posts. Fireplace on E, wooden brackets. Roof ceiled in. Location: The Chapel stands in its own small grounds behind the Church of St Mary.
