Cannock Chase is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and National Landscape in Staffordshire, England. It gives its name to Cannock Chase District, a non-metropolitan local government district containing the towns of Cannock, Hednesford, Rugeley and surrounding rural villages. The district borders South Staffordshire to the west, the Borough of Stafford to the north, Lichfield District to the east, and the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall to the south.

Background
History
The district was created on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, covering two former districts plus a single parish from a third, which were all abolished at the same time: The new district was named Cannock Chase after the landscape and former royal forest which covers much of the area.
