Details TL 32 NW COTTERED BACK LANE (B1037) (north side) HARE STREET 3/3 Broom Manor 19.10.51 GV II House. C15 or early C16 2-storeys SW cross wing, taller C16 2- storeys NW wing, C16 hall range on S with inserted early C17 floor and chimney, red brick fronts c1700 to S, and Ground floor of NW wing on E side, and contemporary windows and panelling. Single storey E kitchen and chimney 1954. Timber frame roughcast with added front in red brick chequered with black headers. Steep old red tile roofs and red brick chimneys. A, 2-storeys and attics, L-shaped house facing S. Lobby-entry, central chimney plan with chimney a third from E end. Former kitchen at E with wider fireplace and trimming for stair trap at SE corner. Parlour at W now thrown into hall. Main stair in rear wing now, with 2-bay structure and N internal gable chimney. Formal S front of brick has a plinth, floor band, and 3 large gables with gable-parapets linked by eaves parapets. A 2-light mullioned casement window in each gable (central window blocked). 4 larger flush 2-light mullioned windows with segmented heads and casements to 1st floor in pattern of 1:2:1 punctuated by upright oval openings, the W one blocked, the E one renewed and glazed over entrance door in front of stack. 4 similar mullioned cross- windows to ground floor and 2-panel door under flat hood on heavy brackets with guttae. Sun firemark no 97213 at 1st floor level. Single-storey plastered kitchen extension with steep old tiled roof set back at E end. Tall central chimney with conjoined diagonal shafts above a rectangular base. Contemporary gable chimney to NW wing with 2 diagonal shafts. Capped-off external C19 chimney to parlour on W end may have replaced an older stack. Entrance now by a panelled door with pedimented hood on E side of N
