Category C Date Added 22/01/1971 Supplementary Information Updated 22/03/2001 Local Authority Midlothian Planning Authority Midlothian Parish Crichton NGR NT 42948 61592 Coordinates 342948, 661592 — Circa 1850. Single span, segmental-arched vernacular bridge; rubble parapet, shaped stone copes; wing walls with stone copes to E and W, training walls at river level. Random rubble with lime mortar, ashlar spandrels and abutments, replacement concrete haunch. — Fala Dam was never more than a few cottages, but now it is a peaceful picturesque hamlet, off the main road. This bridge was built as replacement for a ford, on what was once the main Edinburgh to Cornhill & Kelso road.
