Details IPSTONES C.P. CALDON CANAL, Froghall SK 04 NW 10/208 - Bridge at Froghall Wharf GV II Canal road bridge. Circa 1783. Coursed dressed and squared stone. Virtually round arch, string at carriageway level and parapet with rounded coping both inclined up slope to north; piers at ends. The last section of the Caldon Canal was opened circa 1783. The canal was built to carry limestone from Caldon Low, first surveyed by James Brindley, succeeded by Henshaw and John Rennie.
