Details BOXFORD 966/0/10040 CHURCH STREET 24-SEP-03 (East side) War Memorial in St. Mary's Churchyard GV II War memorial. 1919. Portland stone. Memorial is in the form of a churchyard cross and is approx. 3 metres high. Octagonal stepped base is surmounted by cruciform pedestal from which rises a moulded octagonal shaft base carved on one face with an infantryman in low relief. From this rises the octagonal shaft of the cross, a finely carved figure of Christ hanging from its arms which are also octagonal. The figure is protected by an unusual gablet canopy which has curving sides. Various inscription panels commemorate the Fallen in both World Wars. This finely detailed memorial forms a group with the adjacent Church of St. Mary (q.v.) This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register.
