Details The war memorial stands prominently within the churchyard of the Grade II*-listed church of St Michael. It comprises a 5m tall stone cross. The cross-head carries a central rose to the front and rear whilst the arms bear other decorative motifs, and is set on an octagonal shaft rising from a pedimented square plinth set on a simple square base. The front (south) face of the plinth carries the inscription IN GRATITUDE/ TO THE MEN OF BEMPTON AND BUCKTON/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1919/ (10 NAMES)/ GOD AND THEIR COUNTRY CALLED THEM/ BUT THEIR NAMES SHALL LIVE. The east face of the plinth is inscribed 1939 – 1945./ (2 NAMES)/ KOREAN CONFLICT. 1950 – 1953./ (1 NAME)/ (3 NAMES).
