Details The war memorial stands prominently within the churchyard of the Grade II*-listed church of St Michael. It comprises a 5m tall stone cross. The cross-head carries a central rose to the front and rear whilst the arms bear other decorative motifs, and is set on an octagonal shaft rising from a pedimented square plinth set on a simple square base. The front (south) face of the plinth carries the inscription IN GRATITUDE/ TO THE MEN OF BEMPTON AND BUCKTON/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1919/ (10 NAMES)/ GOD AND THEIR COUNTRY CALLED THEM/ BUT THEIR NAMES SHALL LIVE. The east face of the plinth is inscribed 1939 – 1945./ (2 NAMES)/ KOREAN CONFLICT. 1950 – 1953./ (1 NAME)/ (3 NAMES). This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 1 February 2017.
