Details TQ 19 NE ALDENHAM ALDENHAM SCHOOL 7/10 Library - GV II Library. 1923 on rainwater heads. By M.Waterhouse for the Brewer's Company. Neo-Georgian style. 2 storeys. 5 bays by 3 bays. Stock brick with red brick and stone dressings. Hipped tiled roof. Entrance facing School House (q.v.): panelled double doors with dedicatory inscription above to war dead. Dentilled cornice with arms in a cartouche, patterned arched head. Red brick surround projects with a hollow moulded round arch. Banded rustication. Stone course at impost level and stone key. Flanking bays: ground floor red brick niches with finely gauged brickwork and stone keys. Stone course separates storeys. First floor: blind rectangular openings with gauged flat arched heads, moulded stone sills and brick aprons. Date to right apron. Continuous plinth and cornice. Coped parapet with a segmental recess to centre. 4 urns. 5 bay return: ground floor: 24 pane flush frame sashes. Aedicular surround to centre with segmental pediment, jambs flared out at base. Flanking gauged flat arched heads with stone keys. First floor 16 pane sashes with apron to centre. Plinth in plum brick, stone course between storeys. Dentilled stone cornice. Coped parapet. 2 rainwater pipes separate outer bays. Red brick quoins. To rear: large multipaned round headed window in red brick surround, blocked voussoirs. Flanking niches and blind openings as at front. Urns to parapet. Later additions to left. Interior: elliptical gallery on timber Ionic colonnade, iron railings, Neo-Classical plaster ceiling.
