Britain's Victorian pleasure piers

Pleasure architecture on stilts — the surviving piers of seaside Britain.

There were 100 pleasure piers in their 1900s heyday; about 60 still stand. They preserve a particular British contradiction: industrial cast-iron ironwork supporting frivolity, peep-show machines and ice cream. This guide lists ten of the most rewarding to walk.
