Twenty British lighthouses worth a detour
From Bell Rock to South Stack — a coastal tour of light architecture.
Britain has around 700 lighthouses; these twenty are the most architecturally or historically remarkable. Bell Rock (Stevensons, 1810) is the world's oldest sea-washed lighthouse still in use; the Smeaton tower (Eddystone) is preserved on Plymouth Hoe; South Stack on Anglesey perches on a flooded chasm with a wildlife reserve below.
