The Isles of Scilly

Five inhabited islands, sub-tropical gardens, and 28 miles south-west of Land's End.

The Isles of Scilly sit 28 miles south-west of Land's End — closer to France than to most of Cornwall. The Gulf Stream gives them a sub-tropical microclimate; Tresco's Abbey Garden grows palms, agaves and proteas year-round. Five inhabited islands, all reachable by boat from St Mary's. A long weekend is the minimum; a week is better.
