The Outer Hebrides: a one-week island tour

Lewis to Barra: 130 miles of white sand beaches, Neolithic stone circles, and Gaelic culture.

The Outer Hebrides — also called the Western Isles — are a chain of islands off the north-west coast of Scotland. Lewis at the top has the Callanish stone circles (5,000 years old, older than Stonehenge); Harris has Luskentyre, regularly voted Britain's best beach; Barra at the bottom has an airport on a tidal beach. A week with a hire car and the inter-island ferries is the canonical route.
