Cardiff is Wales's small but characterful capital, anchored by Cardiff Castle (Norman keep + Victorian fantasy interiors), the Bute Park gardens behind it, and the regenerated Cardiff Bay with the Wales Millennium Centre and Pierhead. Add St Fagans National Museum of History (free open-air museum) for half a day.
